Year of the Pig - Horoscopes by Feng Shui Master Mak Ling Ling
Translations by Em @ TVBspace

Em's note:This is just a bit of fun, please don't take things too seriously and I hope you all have a happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year!

Among the twelve animal signs, the Pig year will bring much fulfilment as people rush to get married or have children in this year. Master Mak says that although this year is not a true 'Gold Pig' year [it is in fact a 'Fire Pig' year], but many people see the Pig as an auspicious sign, so there will be a lot of festivities this year. Master Mak offers her predictions for each of the twelve signs this year and starts by pointing out that it will be an especially good year for those who were born in the year of the Rabbit and the Horse. Snakes need to be careful as their sign is in opposition. This year is also a good year for those who have a link to water, so if you have a watery name, then it will be a good year.

She says that last year's Dog year had a fortune star on women, so there will be a lot of very obedient Pig children born this year. Pig children will get on especially well with parents who are Tigers, Rabbits and Sheep. This year's fortune star shines on men over 35 years of age, so some eligible bachelors such as Leon Lai and Aaron Kwok may announce their wedding plans at any time!

Master Mak indicates that in the world of entertainment, this year will be a good year for talent and it will be a time for those with skill to shine, whereas those who rely purely on hype will see a declining success. Films about children or animation will do well this year, but it will also be a year of endless gossip and argument, so it will certainly be a colourful year!

PIG: Moses has a chance of an award

Pigs are in direct opposition to the stars this year, but there are three lucky stars on your side, which will bring smooth progress in your personal career. There are a number of stars that may bring a slight injury, but this may be avoided by tending to dental hygiene, donating blood, giving to charity or to take part in happy occasions such as weddings. You can also wear a tiger or a sheep lucky charm.

Moses Chan (born 16/04/71) needs to take care when driving or working to avoid injury. He will be very busy workwise, but his popularity will rise and he may have the opportunity to win an award. Romance-wise, there will be happy new developments and if he has a girlfriend already, then this will take a leap forward.

RAT: Sammi May Have Emotional Troubles

The Sun shines over the Rat this year, which means there is a great influence from a senior male relative. This also signifies the sun shining in all directions, whis means there may be a chance of working abroad this year. However, there may be communication problems this year and this can lead to breakdown and conflict. Rat ladies have a short romance, but this will just be in passing.

Sammi Cheng (born 19/08/72) will have emotional troubles this year and be a little stressed because of the changes in her moods. Workwise, she will find that there are new breakthroughs and if she moves away from the place where she was born, she will find greater rewards.

OX: No Romance for Miriam

Last year was a grim year for Ox people who were in opposition to the stars. This year things will change and there will be good success in careers. A lucky star will bring power and respect, but another star may affect health, so ladies especially need to take care. Also, you need to avoid unnecessary gossip that may lead to you being hurt.

Miriam Yeung (born 03/02/74) will have some new opportunities in her work this year and see some rewards. However, she needs to be careful of her eyes as well as other women's ailments. This year has no romantic stars, so she is not likely to find her love.

TIGER: Eason May Gain a Son

Tigers and Pigs are very well matched, so there will be a lot of changes in the home and in health this year, so taking part in happy celebrations will aid your luck. There are three lucky stars which will bring a helping hand from a senior family member, a rise in power and for the ladies, a special person will bring you good luck.

For Eason Chan (born 27/07/74), this year will bring good luck in wealth and career and there will be a chance of him having another child. As wife Hilary Tsui is also a tiger, then the chance of this being a son is especially high. However, the chances are that they will be arguing before the child is born.

RABBIT: New Start in Love for Charmaine

Rabbits this year will have lucky stars that will bring a great step in career luck, but there are some mischievous stars at play that will bring gossip and arguments. Do not allow your environment to affect you too much and this will bring you a very happy and fulfilled year.

Charmaine Sheh (born 28/05/75) could not evade her separation luck last year, but the Pig year is a happy one, where she will find luck in love and career. There will be someone looking out for her in her work, but she will continue to be surrounded with gossip. Love affairs will come one after another. Her rumoured boyfriend Ron Ng (born 1979) is a Goat and Goats and Rabbits get along very well. However, Charmaine is unlikely to maintain an elder woman relationship.

DRAGON: Gigi Will Find Love in a Foreign Land

Last year's conflicting stars meant that Dragons suffered financially and this year, there is another wealth obstacle, so be careful in how you invest. This year's lucky stars mean that someone will be looking after you and there is a big chance of a romantic encounter. For those who are yet to find a partner, this year you will find the one.

Gigi Leung (born 25/03/76) has had a difficult year of the Dog and has faced a great loss, including that of love. This year, her romance turns for the better, especially in a foreign land, so this will make her happier. Careerwise, things will turn busy and she will receive more offers of ads, but her popularity will remain level.

SNAKE: Aaron Kwok Sudden Wedding Perhaps

Snake people are in opposition this year, so they will have very extreme changes. Wealth, romance and family become very unstable and everything should be considered with stability in mind to minimise the problems. Fortune comes in the opportunity to work abroad and an increase in socialising. A strong meddling star means that it will be easy to lose money this year, to avoid this, wear a rooster or an ox charm.

Aaron Kwok (born 26/10/65) will have some romance this year and he should face it seriously to make it long-lived. If he wants to get married, this may happen suddenly this year. Healthwise there will be a small problem and if he moves house, this will have a positive effect.

HORSE: A Happy Lovelife for Leon

Lucky stars shine down on Horses this year and bring power, leadership and display of talents. All obstacles will be reduced to nothing and it is an ideal time to take great steps in your career. There will be some fluctuations in your wealth though.

For Leon Lai (born 11/12/66), this year will bring a lot of gossip, but romance is stable and he will have a happy lovelife, getting along well with Monkeys such as Gaile Lok. Working as a manager is very suitable for him because he will have good communication with those above and those below.

GOAT: Myolie Gets on Well With Bosco

Everything will run smoothly for Goats this year with a good beginning, but yearning too hard for a big jump will only leave shattered dreams. Lucky stars shine on a show of talent and this will have a great help in your career, but beware of being left on your own as when the career goes well, your feelings may go down. Healthwise, there may be some small ailments and be wary of your social interactions.

Myolie Wu (born 06/11/79) found last year to be a year of great rewards but for great sacrifice and luck was only mediocre, so she did not win an award. This year, her luck takes a good turn and she has a chance to really shine. Romance is very floaty this year, because her 'fire' influence is very strong, so she should interact more with people whose names have a watery connection, like the 'chak' in Bosco Wong's name.

MONKEY: Baby Will Bring Luck to Nic and Cecilia

Monkeys are opposing the stars this year, but they have a lot of lucky stars on their side to overcome any bad luck. You will find a helping hand to turn around any problems and form good relationships with other people and there is a strong chance of promotion and couples will grow stronger. Be wary of some influences that may affect your person and your home.

Nic Tse (born 29/08/80) and Cecilia Cheung (born 24/05/80) will be having a 'little piggy' this year and the baby will bring them both good luck in career as Nic finds a new progression in his work. If the baby is born in August, then his personality will be very much like his father. The chances of Cecilia having a Caesarian is very high and she will continue working as a monther because she has a giving nature and will never spend a man's money.

ROOSTER: Fiona Will Continue to be Surrounded by Gossip

Roosters will find their luck improving on last year and there will be progress in career and talent. The urge to learn is at a peak this year and your ability to absorb knowledge is at its highest, causing your work to go up a level. However, this year will also bring you some peril and danger, so be careful of accidents when you are out and about or being bitten by animals.

Fiona Sit (born 11/08/81) lacked a breakthrough in her career last year, but this year her luck is not bad and takes a turn for the better. There will be a popular song, but with the popularity, there will also be rumours about her conflicts with others.

DOG: Michelle has Chance to Become Mrs Hui

Dogs had an eventful year last year, but things should settle down this year. This year's lucky stars control the area of weddings, children, new family members or marrying off children and there will also be smooth runnings for work and romance. Those who already have a family should take care not to be overly warm to others and this should avoid any misunderstandings.

Michelle Reis (born 20/08/70) is dating rich tycoon Julian Hui and this year will be a happy year, where she will receive a marriage proposal, but whether she will accept is another question. She has a confirmed relationship with her partner and there is a chance she will become Mrs Hui. As Michelle is destined to have to fight with someone, then she should find a more stable relationship with a divorced man.

"The Entire City Dances" In the City

TVB's dancing themed series "The Entire City Dances" filmed a scene earlier in Wanchai's Golden Bauhinia Square that involved the entire cast of the show, including Steven Ma, Bernice Liu, Fala Chen, Tracy Ip, Claire Yiu, Matthew Ko and Mannor Chan. There have been many dancing scenes in this series and this shoot was the grand finale scene that tells of the cast all dancing in their Latin Dance costumes on the waterfront. As it was quite windy in the evening, all the ladies were shivering a little in their thin costumes.

Steven and Bernice have had many dancing scenes and during filming in this one, there was a lot of intimate contact. Steven even had to lift Bernice to do a spin and this took him rather close to her chest. However, they were too absorbed in the dance to notice too much and Steven danced so hard that he nearly fell over and his shoes were damaged, so they had to pause whilst he changed into his own leather shoes.

Afterwards, Bernice and Steven were asked if they had to reach an understanding with each other before filming and Steven indicated that Bernice was a professional dancer, so she understands that close contact is inevitable. Asked if he nearly fell, he immediately said it was quite spooky and he does not understand why something happens every time he dances. He says the heel of his shoe became stuck in the pavement and the sole came apart, making him trip. Fortunately he has a good balance and could continue to hold onto Bernice.

As for Steven getting so close to her chest while dancing, Bernice says he did not and she feels that getting close during dancing is only normal. Asked if she has danced with her rumoured boyfriend (Moses Chan), she says she has never tried this. As for Valentines Day, she says she spent it working and has not received any gifts.

Fala, who filmed her dancing scene opposite partner Stephen Wong Cheung Hing has had plenty of rumours lately, with suggestions that she and Bernice ignore each other on set and then her 'stealing' Bosco Wong and Moses Chan from their respective rumoured girlfriends. Recently, she has been spotted dating a middle-aged man and been labelled as 'Michelle Ye II'.

Filming for the finale scene, the press did notice that Fala and Bernice did not chat to each other in between takes and she preferred to chat with Tracy Ip instead. Asked about being dubbed "Michelle Ye II", Fala says that she is not successful enough to take over from Michelle. As for her continued rumours about her flirting, has she been called in by the executives? Fala says that her flirting abilities are not strong enough and she is not a very 'sweety' girl. She has not been 'interrogated' by the company because they know what she is really like.

Tracy felt the cold whilst filming and she syas that when she was dancing with Steven, he stepped on her foot and she has a bruise on her toe now. She smiles that she is very unlucky to be injured in this very last scene of the show. She also says that this was actually her first dancing scene in the series. Asked if she would like to have a big dance when she gets married in the future, she smiles that even if she does, she will have it indoors and be joined by her friends and family to share this memorable occasion.

Kate Tsui was also in the scene and she says this is one of her few dancing scenes in the show and it is so grand to have everyone taking part. Asked if she is afraid of revealing herself during filming, she says she will not because she has taken all the safety precautions. When the reporters suggested that her outfit was rather conservative, she says: "It is cold and I don't want to become unwell. It is not totally covered up, it is okay!"

Charmaine Sheh Misses Out on New Year Money Making

With two days until the new year, Charmaine Sheh was still filming yesterday for "The Drive of Life" and she indicates that she has two days off during the new year, but on one of these days, she will be taking part in a group greeting event for the company. She reveals that she had originally been invited to take part in a New Year Show in America, but she had to turn it down because of her filming and so she will take the time to rest in Hong Kong. Asked if she has lost out on a lot of money by turning this down, she says: "I won't say! You can't earn all the money."

Asked if she has been to the Flower Markets, Charmaine says that she may go. She remembers that one year, she went at midnight and there were a lot of people there. She wore a face mask and a hat, but she could not get through anyway. If she goes this year, she will wait until 3am or 4am. Does she buy Plum Blossom? Charmaine says she does not and there is not much New Year atmosphere in her home. She did visit her grandmother earlier for dinner and was presented with a potted kumquat plant. Did she give a big lucky packet to her grandma? Charmaine says: "Of course I did!" She also says that if she has time, she will go and visit her family and friends and collect some lucky money.

Many people like to gamble over the New Year and Charmaine has already invited a few friends to join her for a small gambling party, playing any games that take their fancy. Does she feel she has gambler's luck? She says: "Sometimes! I have tried betting on random numbers and winning a few thousand dollars."

Miss Hong Kong Winners Wish Prosperity for Golden Pig Year

Chinese New Years Eve is time to have your family reunion dinner, spend the night at the markets and going for a big lucky walkaround. Model Kathy Chow joined this year's Miss Hong Kong winners at this years markets to wish everyone a very prosperous year of the Golden Pig.

Kathy has always been a fan of the New Year markets and last year she did not go because she was too busy and coincidentally, she was 'hounded' by gossip in the year of the dog. This year, no matter how busy she is, she has made a point to go and pick up some good luck at the market and she attracted a lot of attention as the public swarmed around her eager for a photo. She was happy to oblige and she shopped as she went, looking at ornaments and potted plants. When she saw the golden pigs, she went up to select some, but she steered clear of the plum blossom. When she walked past, the stallholder called out to her: "Why not pick up some plum blossom [represents romance]?" However, Kathy, who has been with her French boyfriend for many years, does not need this and replied: "Romance? I don't need it!"

With her relationship so steady, will she be joining him at the new year to go visiting and handing out lucky packets? Kathy smiles: "That is so traditional! I will not hand out lucky packets for him, I will just collect them for myself!" She says frankly that she hopes the year of the pig will go smoothly for her and she will get busier and busier. She will be working until the New Year when she has a rest, but she will be joining her family for the reunion dinner and to receive her lucky packets.

Miss Hong Kong winners Aimee Chan, Janet Chow and Koni Lui were also at the New Year Carnival and the three tried all the different stands and even borrowed an inflatable stall to try their hand at selling. The three pretty girls attracted a lot of interest and a crowd gathered, but no-one bought anything. The girls had a good time though and gained a lot of discounts during their shopping.

Sonija has Quiet Valentines Day - Roger Prepares 600 Lucky Packets

Sonija Kwok and Roger Kwok were filming on the evening of Valentines Day for "Curious Detective" where they were passed on the streets by many couples. The scene tells of one where she finds her lover cheating on her and Sonija has bought two cinema tickets ready for her and boyfriend Kenneth Ma, but he refuses on the grounds of work. She does not want to waste the tickets, so she asks Roger to join her, but they bump into Kenneth and Queenie Chu at the same cinema. To avoid Sonija getting hurt, Roger tries to stop them from seeing each other.

Sonija says that if she met two-timing boyfriends in real life then she would definitely dump them and she has met people like this in the past. "Women are especially senstive about these things and when I was dating, I had a partner with a third party and then they ended up getting married. Sometimes when I think back, I do find them to be the right couple." Although she had to work on Valentines Day, Sonija had no complaints and she felt that she had a very happy time with the crew. She says: "I have received no flowers and no gifts this year, just some perfume from a girlfriend. I am currently busy filming, so I don't have time to meet people. I feel that not having anyone to date is even better because it is less hassle." She says that she is enjoying single life and is in no rush to find her other half.

On what was Roger's first Valentines Day after his wedding, Roger had left his wife at home. However, he rushed home after the shoot and had prepared a gift for his wife. He says: "My wife has just released her book and in order to show my support, I have bought ten copies and wrapped ten of them up decoratively to give out to her friends." Roger says that from today, he will have ten days vacation and he will stay in Hong Kong for the Chinese New Year before heading out to Singapore and North America to make some money in stage shows. Asked if his wife would be going with him, he said that she will be staying in Hong Kong because she is currently studying a Nutrition course at Hong Kong University and she will have to revise for exams in March. He says: "My wife would like to have a photograph wearing a mortar board, so she will stay in Hong Kong and study. After her exams in March, then we will go on vacation." With this being the first new year after their marriage, Roger has made all the preparations and visited the flower markets, buying a plum blossom for their home. As for lucky packets, he says that Cindy has prepared 600 lucky packets to hand out to family and friends.

Angela Tong Turns Ugly Betty

TVB Pearl will begin to air "Ugly Betty" as of 15th March and this series has already picked up Golden Globes for 'Best Series' and 'Best Actress'. To tie in the image of the leading role, Angela Tong was asked to help promote the show by giving her own rendition of the 'Ugly Betty' style and she was joined by former Miss Hong Kong contestants such as Amy Tsang and Chloe Nguyen to help promote the show. Wearing braces, thick eyebrows and thick lipstick, Angela put on the thick framed glasses and looked almost as 'good' as her 'Ah Ho' character.

Angela reveals that she did wear a brace when she was younger because she likes to suck her thumb as a child, her teeth started growing outwards and when she was 14, she asked her mother to take her to have them fitted and she had to wear them until she was 16 or 17 before she started attracting the boys again. After finding fame as the 'ugly' character of Ah Ho, Angela does not mind playing the ugly girl again, but she says that this is a harder look to pull off than Ah Ho: "Ah Ho's teeth were easy to put in and take out, but the braces are quite tihgt and the wires are difficult to remove. Luckily my gums are alright." As the character is quite plump, but Angela is fairly thin, she has put on quite a few layers and a turtleneck sweater to pad out, but as the weather has been quite warm of late, she has been sweating a lot whilst they have been out filming for the promotion. She says: "Yesterday, we were filming on location in Causeway Bay and the public recognised me as Ah Ho and complimented me on how pretty I looked. One granny even touched me on the face and said I was beautiful, I couldn't believe it!"

Shirley Yeung Does Not Want to be Stuck to Gregory Lee

With recent rumours about her break-up with boyfriend Gregory Lee, Shirley Yeung was asked about this whilst filming for a new year show with Nancy Wu and Kenny Bee yesterday and said: "Everything's alright! I do not want to talk so much about my relationship because I am scared people think we are like conjoined twins and not paying attention to our work. Everything is as normal." Shirley headed out on her vacation yesterday wearing light make-up and from her tour group sticker, she seemed to be going to Vancouver. Xiong Dailin and Melissa Ng were also spotted departing from a particularly busy Hong Kong Airport.

Gigi and Charmaine Lead the Artistes at TVB Spring Banquet

TVB's Artiste Department held its Spring Banquet on Wednesday evening at a Tseung Kwan O restaurant and among the sixty artistes present were Charmaine Sheh, Gigi Lai, Sonija Kwok, Myolie Wu, Ron Ng, Bosco Wong, Steven Ma, Roger Kwok and Bowie Lam. Executives in attendance included Leung Nai Pang, Stephen Chan, Virginia Lok and Catherine Tsang. A group photo was taken before the meal and with Catherine in charge of the seating arrangements, this year's TV Queen Charmaine was placed to the right of Mr Leung, whilst the previous year's winner Gigi Lai was placed to his left. Sonija, Myolie, Bernice Liu, Shirley Yeung, Yoyo Mung and Linda Chung were split to either side. As for the male stars, Ron, Bowie, Roger, Moses Chan, Bosco, Raymond Lam, Steven and Kenneth Ma were placed in front of the ladies. The other less popular stars including Fala Chen, Leanne Li, Sharon Chan, Matthew Ko and Rocky Cheng were sent to the back two rows.

Some reports suggest that in an interview with the Taiwan media, Benny Chan has revealed details of his split with Charmaine and how they are now just friends. In response to this, Charmaine says with surprise: "What? I didn't know. I have no comment about this, there is nothing for me to say." For the Chinese New Year this year, Charmaine will be heading back to the company for the group greetings on the first day, then she will have a few days off. She says that she is very Westernised, so she has not been to the flower markets to buy plum blossom. As for Valentines Day, although she has some pursuits from outside the industry, she says she prefers to spend the evening with her girlfriends on a singles night party, maybe going for a hotpot.

When Yoyo was asked if her boyfriend Ekin Cheng had returned to the mainland to continue filming, she smiles she does not know, but she does not some friends are not in Hong Kong. Asked if Ekin has given her a Valentines gift, she smiles: "My friend has not died yet so he will not leave me anything." Talking of the reports that she has spent $50,000 on a pair of lovers watches, one for her and one for Ekin, she holds up her arm to show her watch saying: "I bought this watch that day, the price was $8000 and I am very careful with money, so I just bought one for myself." As for Gigi Leung's injury during an earlier show, Yoyo says: "I felt very sorry for her because it looked quite painful, but no-one wants accidents to happen, so we all have to be careful."

Roger will be filming with Sonija for "Curious Detective" on Valentines Day but he has not forgotten to send some flowers to his wife. Aksed how many he will be sending, he smiles: "One! One represents only me!" Sonija has received some perfume from a girlfriend as a Valentines gift but this friend has a boyfriend already, so she warns not to get too imaginative. After many years without a date, she hopes to buy some plum blossom this year to help her romance.

Myolie and Bosco Condemn Irresponsible Reports

Myolie Wu and Bosco Wong became the centre of the press attention at the TVB Artiste Dept Spring Banquet earlier, but Myolie seemed rather reserved in a marked changed from her earlier appearances. When the press asked for her to pose with Bosco, she immediately refused, saying: "He wants to be photographed with Ron (Ng)." Then she makes her excuses to move away. She could not run very far though, but poor Ron had to stand with them again in the photo. After the shoot, Bosco and Myolie went their separate ways.

A fortune teller in a magazine has predicted new year horoscopes for the year of the pig and Myolie has been given a terrible prediction that she would break down and commit suicide for love. In response for this, she says: "That is so reckless. No news reaches these limits. It is so unlucky for the new year! No matter what happens, life is the most important thing and even if I have nothing to eat, I will never commit suicide, never mind a silly little thing like love! I will definitely bring that feng shui master down and ruin him. (They also report that Fala Chen has been flirting madly with Bosco?) They are writing rubbish, I don't know what they will write next!" As for Bosco, he smiles that the reports about Fala are just a laugh but he reacted quite strongly to the reports about Myolie, saying: "Writing such horrible things at the new year! I know that Myolie is an optimistic person and will never commit suicide."

Fala, who has also been rumoured to be coming between Bernice Liu and Moses Chan kept her distance from both sets of couples for the evening and opted to stick with Tavia Yeung to keep her company.

Myolie has also been doing voluntary work in her capacity of ambassador for a Social Aid charity and she has been to the Victoria Park Flower Market to encourage the public to donate to the cause by selling designer jumpers for just $50. However, when she approached people to ask them to donate, they were very rude and just photographed her without making a donation. She indicates that she does not have a date for Valentines Day and has not received any gifts or any SMS, never mind a date!

Dayo Hands Out Kisses for Valentines Day

Dayo Wong, Cecilia Yip, Lam Ka Wah and Vivien Yeo were among the cast members who took part in the studio blessing ceremony for new series "Evil Kin" yesterday. As it also happened to be Valentines Day, the producer Lam Chi Wah asked Dayo to give all the girls a kiss and at first Dayo was a little hesitant, but after a short deliveration, he kissed each of the ladies on the hand. Then when Wong Chun Tong presented him with the pig head to kiss, he made him very embarrassed.

Cecilia has only been resting for four or five hours per day after starting filming on this series, so she has not had time to clean up or buy anything for the new year. Talking about her character, she says it is very cute abd sometimes she laughs so hard that she has to take a break. However, she is full of praises for Dayo's creativity and she is getting used to the last minute changes in the script that makes it hard for her to keep up. Although she has to work on Valentines Day, she has already received a gift from her husband. She says: "When I returned home this morning, there was a present on my bed. I was very happy and it was so sweet."

With Cecilia's comment about being unable to keep up with Dayo on the scripts, he says: "I have given her copies of the scripts and she is very smart and can learn a whole page after one runthrough. (Has the producer complained?) The script is already very good, so I just changed a little and it is only once in a while." He also says that the other cast members have been affected by him and are not learning their lines and choosing to improvise instead. As for the reports that he is falling out with Cecilia, he says: "How would we? I have never fallen out with any other cast member. (The reports suggest that Cecilia is being a diva?) I don't think so, if they are talking about having meals, then she is definitely the big sister because she has paid for many meals and she is very serious about her work." As for whether he will be finishing early for Valentines Day, Dayo laughs: "I did not have this concept at all. (Has your girlfriend complained?) I am saving money every day! I have been working, so I will buy her a present after this has finished filming." Dayo also reveals that when he was filming a scene where he was feeding a dog earlier he was bitten on the finger by the dog, but he is fine now.

Hacken Not Yet Confirmed to Host 'Minutes to Fame'

The cast of New Year movie "The Lady Iron Chef" joined together for a reunion dinner earlier and executive producer Wong Jing offered a number of lucky packets for the draw. The dinner was attended by Hacken Lee, Yuen Chau, Alice Chan, Cheung Tat Ming, Chow Chung and Lau Yeung and female lead Charmaine Sheh rushed over after attending the TVB spring banquet. She joined straight in with the games, making sweet soup dumplings with Lau Yeung, which were judged by Hacken, Yuen Chau and Master Chow. However, Hacken had to take a breather after his sharks fin soup before he tried the dessert.

This film will be premiered on International Womens' Day on 8th March and Hacken says that his greatest memory of the film was wearing a highly amusing wig and his first ever scene where his pants fall down. At first when he read the script, he found this a little hard to bear, but in the end he convinced himself that he should not have any reservations as an artiste, so he locked away his 'pop idol' ego for the film. The scene in question tells of him falling from a rooftop and on the way down, Charmaine holds onto his legs, but his pants give way and he falls to the ground. When it was mentioned that this is similar to what happened earlier to Yumiko Cheng, who also appears in the film, but was absent at this event, Hacken denies this, saying: "No, it is not related." He has not discussed this scene with her though.

To avoid revealing himself during the scene, Hacken made sure he had plenty of layers on and he wore two pairs of underpants and a pair of boxer shorts below his trousers. When he arrived at the set, he borrowed another two pairs of shorts from the crew, so altogether he had five pairs of underpants on. He was still a little embarrassed though because he says he is rarely seen in his undies. He says: "I am not filming kung fu series, but I always end up on wires whenever I film a movie. The scene took a whole night to shoot and I was taking my trousers off and putting them back on numerous times during the shoot. It felt strange and uncomfortable because normally you would only do this if you had diarrhoea. (Was Charmaine embarrassed?) I don't think she felt anything, we just don't discuss it and it was nothing really because I had so many layers on." Talking of a scene where they closed off streets in Mongkok to film, Hacken comments that it has been many years since he walked down a street in Mongkok so happily. Howeverhe says that he has never been insulted on the streets, proving how accepted he is. He says that the only unhappy incident during filming was that he fell ill and he is still coughing.

Asked if he will be hosting the forthcoming new series of "Minutes to Fame", Hacken says openly that he is not sure yet and if the timing is right then he will do it. He is currently working with TVB on a slot in his schedule and he says that maybe he is just one of many choices for TVB. As for the rumours that TVB only wants one out of him or Joey Leung, he says he does not know and in the first series, he did not have time to do it originally and only found the time at the last minute. Moreover, he and Joey were the second choice options for the original job.

When Charmaine was asked about Hacken's trouser scene, she says she did not see a thing and she felt concerned more for his safety because he was on wires all night. Asked if after becoming TV Queen, her new goal is on the Best Movie Actress title, she says: "This is very far off and I would like to make more movies. It is great fun, especially comedies and the atmosphere is happier." There have been reports that a fortune teller predicts a death in her family this year and although this angered her, she does not feel there is any truth in what he says and good things always happen to good people. She does smile and hope for good luck. The reports also suggest she does not have the fortune to marry into a rich family, she says she would rather depend on herself.

Alice plays a cameo role in the film and she will not start work again until after the new year. Since selling her home, she has lived in a hotel for the past two years and recently she has moved to a serviced apartment. She reveals that she has not bought another property because she has been given advice from a soothsayer that she has to wait until 2008 before she does, otherwise there will be a flood. For Valentines Day, she is working during the day and she has an appointment with the dentist in the evening because she does not have a date. Having been photographed hand in hand with a man earlier in Mongkok, she says this is not her boyfriend, just a friend.

Matthew Ko and Tracy Ip Embarrassed at Playing Lovers

Tracy Ip, Stephen Wong (Cheung Hing), Suki Chui, Matthew Ko, Aimee Chan and Lo Chun Shun dressed up in traditional Chinese and Western-style wedding gowns for a Valentines Day promotion for TVB Pay Vision yesterday. To tie in with the loving atmosphere for the festival, the three couples were asked to pair up to share a little kiss. In a little trick played on Tracy and Matthew, they were unpaired with their original partners and forced to share a kiss. Despite there being a plastic sheet between them, Matthew was still very awkward and would only kiss against Tracy's cheek. Aimee would only let Lo Chun Shun kiss the back of her hand and in the end, not one couple were willing to do a mouth-to-mouth kiss. Afterwards, they then shared an arm-in-arm drink and Tracy and Matthew were joked with again, leaving Matthew very red faced and embarrassed.

Tracy has been reported to have split with her rumoured boyfriend Don Li and she will be working at TVB City for Valentines Day, but she does have a small gift in that Don will also be there filming for "Jade Solid Gold". Asked if she was worried about the awkwardness if she bumped into him, she smiles: "If I see him I will be even happier because I have not seen him for a long time. We are friends and the rumours have passed now, there should be some new topics now." She also indicates that she loves wearing wedding gowns because weddings are full of fantasy, so when she saw the reports of Cathy Tsui and Cecilia Cheung's weddings earlier, she felt very happy for them. She does not wish to marry into a rich family though and just hopes that she will have a romantic wedding in the future. For now, she will be concentrating on her career because the fortune teller has said that her destiny has not come yet. She will not date anyone from within the showbiz industry because there will be too much misunderstanding and gossip. Asked if this is to do with her failed relationship with Don, she says it is unrelated and she has never admitted to dating Don.

When Suki was 19, she was invited on a date by a man, who proposed to her with a gift that held a note 'Marry Me'. Of course, she quickly turned him down. As for this year, she will be working on Valentines Day and has not prepared a gift for her boyfriend yet, neither has she received anything yet. After work, she will be having a meal with her family and then returning home to sleep. Although Aimee has plenty of pursuits, she will not be going on any dates because she would rather go out with her family. She also has to work, but she will be sending flowers to her parents and godmother. Her pursuits have mainly sent her flowers, but as a design student, she likes people to give her gifts that are hand-made. Her fans understand this and have made soup dumplings, calendars and lucky stars for her, making her very happy.

Mannor Chan Straight Back to Work after Surgery

Mannor Chan was suffering earlier from high fever, stomach pains, sickness and diarrhoea and after an inspection at hospital was diagnised with helicobacter pylori and a tumour was also found in her intestines that needed to be operated on straight away. Back at work filming for "The Entire City Dances" yesterday, she says: "I have to take antibiotics for a month and the doctor told me to take more rest. Fortunately it was detected early, otherwise it could later have turned into a cancerous tumour." She had to start work at 9am for a dancing scene.

Fiona Yuen's Thoughts with Canadian Valentine

Fiona Yuen released her fourth cookbook yesterday that concentrates on lovers dishes and at the launch event yesterday, she prepared a special Valentines menu that took just six minutes to prepare. As tomorrow is Valentines Day, she says she does not have a date, so she has chosen tomorrow to move into her new home.

Fiona was earlier snapped on a date with a man who was later dubbed her 'Chef Boyfriend'. She says that he has since returned to Canada and they will be spending Valentines Day apart. Asked whether he has made any gestures, she says: "I don't know. Maybe I will send him an SMS, but I have not prepared a present, because it will be difficult to get it to him. If we are dating, then he will send me a more thoughtful present, so I will wait and see what happens, hopefully he will give me a surprise."

Has she made a Valentines meal for this man? Fiona says that she does not know him very well and they were just introduced to each other by a Canadian friend, so she has not had the opportunity yet. Since the news broke, there has been quite a following in Canada and she feels that this has led to him becoming more reserved. They still keep in touch by phone though.

Bernice Catches Sleep During Fainting Scene

Fala Chen and Bernice Liu were filming yesterday at the Gold Coast Hotel for "The Entire City Dances" in a scene that tells of Fala losing in a dance competition to arch rival Bernice and then in her anger pushing her dance teacher down the staircase. TVB requested a clear set for the shoot, but this led to some scuffles between the hotel staff and the press.

In her fainting scene, Bernice was taken away on a trolley, but she fell asleep as she lay on the stretcher. Woken up by the reporters she said: "I have not slept for three days and my flu is still not better, so I am very tired." The story tells of Bernice's retina becoming detached during dancing, leading to her fainting and co-star Steven Ma laughs: "It is the same injury that I suffered when I had my horse accident, where my retina became detcahed. I even asked the writers why they were copying my story!"

As for Fala who has been bothered by rumours of late, with suggestions she has been crying in make-up, she denies that this happened and says that she will deal with the gossip calmly.

Kenix Kwok Still Cries Watching "Ten Brothers"

TVB will be airing "Ten Brothers" as of today for its Chinese New Year presentation. Kenix Kwok joined other cast members including Lai Lok Yi, Matt Yeung, Don Li and Jack Wu at a promotional event yesterday and they appeared wearing their costumes from the show and played games with the audience. Although this series was filmed over two years ago, when the ten brothers meet up again, they are playing around each other and seem to be good friends. Other cast members present included Nancy Wu, Chun Wong and Poon Fong Fong.

The ten brothers' father Frankie Lam was away in Malaysia for an opening, so he could not take part, so mother Kenix took charge of proceedings. She says that when Frankie is back in Hong Kong, then they will join together for another promotional event. She says that as this series was filmed a couple of years ago, her memory was a little blurred, so she watched the series again earlier to jog her memories and when she reached the ending, she could not hold back the tears. Kenix says this series is suitable for young and old alike.

As for many people going away for the new year, then maybe the ratings will not be so high. Kenix says: "The market is good this year, so naturally a lot of people are going away. This series has had a good run, with the overseas release and the pay vision release, so for it to make it to Jade is already very good." Talking of Valentines Day, Kenix says she will go out for a meal with husband Frankie and as for a present, she smiles that there are too many festivals in a year, so she will have to see if she has the inspiration for a suitable present.

This series was the last one that Kenix has made for TVB. Will she be considering a new contract with TVB? She says that the most important thing is down to the script and she would like to film some more comedies, like her role in "Love Bond" because it was good fun. Her earlier mainland series "Red Powder" has been aired in the new year slot, so she will soon be heading out to Shanxi and Wuhan to promote at their new year activities. She smiles that she does not know why she has been invited as the others on the tour are singers. Asked if her fee is good, she smiles that of course it is.

Shirley Yeung Splits from Gregory Lee Just Before Valentines

Shirley Yeung appeared in an Audrey Hepburn look at a jewellery promotional event yesterday entitled "Your Valentine Sparkles" where some male models presented the ladies with diamonds for Valentines. When Shirley was asked about how she will be spending Valentines with her boyfriend Gregory Lee, her expression changed when she heard his name in a change to the normally open approach that Shirley has in talking about her relationship. She changed the subject on three occasions, saying that she is just concentrating on her career now and does not want to talk about romance.

After the show, Shirley was asked if she has been presented with diamonds by her boyfriend, but she became very embarrassed and muttered: "No, I don't want to talk about it." Then she changed the subject and said: "The first time I received diamonds was when I graduated and my mother bought me something. I have also given a diamond necklace to my mother. I rarely buy them, but later I will buy something as a reward for myself." When the press pushed her further asking how she would spend Valentines with her boyfriend, she says: "I will be working. (Any preparations?) Working." Afterwards, the revealed that she will be going on holiday for the new year: "I will be going away for the new year with some old classmates and will leave it up to my mother to collect my lucky packets for me."

Seeing Shirley's evasion of the topic, the press went straight in directly asking if her relationship has broken up. She seemed a little shocked and said: "Not responding. when you grow up, your work becomes more important and I will concentrate on my work and work hard to give more good performances. (Is the trip to heal the wounds?) No." Then she said something strange: "Although my character in 'The Brink of Law' is a villain and leads me to being scolded, but it gives me the chance to perform..." Her response is obviously hiding something. Afterwards, Gregory was contacted by phone about this and he said politely: "Thank you for your concern, everything is good and I just want to concentrate on my work."

[Express Weekly - Issue 438 - 11 Jan 2007]
Translated by Em @ TVBspace

Model Male Lead - Lai Lok Yi

For a Hong Kong Entertainment Gossip fan who does not really pay attention to television series, there are usually only two types of TV star who will rouse my interest:

1. Those with a negative image, who love partying, womanising, who have affairs behind their wives backs, who are arrogant, rumoured to have had cosmetic surgery or offer their services.

2. Those who hail from rich families - as the saying goes, hate the rich, love the poor.

But what about Lai Lok Yi?
Since entering the industry, he has not touched on any of the forementioned items. When his series "Hearts of Fencing" in 2003 brought him to notoriety, I was no longer in my youthful days. As a result, the time when he truly caught my attention was when he became caught up in the 'elder sister - younger brother' affair with Yoyo Mung last year. Then what kept my attention was when the story unravelled into Yoyo becoming linked with good friend Ekin Cheng and Lok Yi was found to be their matchmaker.

So I figured to find out more about the Yoyo-Ekin affair, I should go and interview the matchmaker. If the two people in question refuse to talk about it, then surely the person who brought them together would say something. However, Lok Yi had no intentions of gossiping to me and when he saw the three shuttlecocks I had prepared for the shoot, he raised a frown on his forehead.

"Still talking badminton? That's very outdated!" Upon saying this, he still took the photo to avoid any awkwardness. It was all my own intentions to talk about Yoyo and Ekin, because in his mind, as a male lead in television, what he should be doing is keeping a healthy image and perform well in his series. A healthy image is not easily built up (and of course gossiping about other people is not healthy), so there is no reason for Lok Yi to break his principles for this interview.

As straight and honest as he is, then the model male lead is surely a title that belongs to him.

You cannot blame Lok Yi for this. As an artiste, then whenever you meet the press and they want to talk about other people, then it is hard to face. Yet, there are too many people who want to know about Yoyo and Ekin, so as a reporter, it is my duty to ask at least a few questions.

Don't Say Matchmaker

Is it annoying? "I am used to it. There is nothing I can do. In this industry, this is what always happens. If they have any news, then I will get involved because my name is already in the dictionary.

"I have already clarified on numerous occasions that in a big group of friends, then it doesn't have to be me who introduced them. We play badminton in a big group, then why does it have to be me? It is just that I know Yoyo quite well, but they also know a lot of other people. If they have to write this about me, then I can't do anything about it."

I have also heard that they have already known each other from ten years ago. Lok Yi says a little impatiently: "How big is this industry? You can't now know each other. I don't know how long they have known each other, but they definitely know of each other and maybe they have worked together before. They have been in the industry for over ten years - how big is TVB City?"

Some reports say that this mutual good friend has to look after his friend's girlfriend for him, with Ekin heading up to the Mainland for filming, then people will automatically think that this 'good friend' and 'girlfriend' will be Ekin and Yoyo.

"Aii!" He sighs. "It is just what they write. I now choose not to respond, but people say it is a silent admission. If you respond, then they will say you are hinting at something. When you say that you don't want to comment, then they will twist it into a yes. There is nothing I can do, whatever I say will be turned around into admitting something and then they will say Lai Lok Yi this this this... I cannot stop them from writing it, so I just read it and leave it."

We leave Ekin and Yoyo and talk about his rumours with Yoyo. He describes this as 'just a laugh'.

"That time was even worse. We had just finished doing promotional work for 'Forensic Heroes' at Discovery Park and then we went to eat with (former manager) Sindy at a nearby cafe. After taking the official photographs, the reporters continued to photograph us and then twisted it into a romance between us. In the end we did not clarify anything, because from a news point of view it was okay and it was a bit ridiculous.

"Yoyo and I only got to know each other from filming for 'Forensic' and we are friends. As she is a very direct girl, she looked after me like a big sister looks after a little brother, after all she has been in the industry a lot longer and could give me tips in a lot of areas. So we saw the rumours as a promotional ploy for the 'Forensic' series."

Yoyo is like a big sister to Lok Yi: "She takes care of me and treats me like a younger brother."

His friendship with Ekin stemmed from working on 'Always Ready'. "Filming with Ekin, he would always give me advice and was very good."

The Road to Stardom

After talking about other people, it is time to talk more about Lok Yi himself.

Lok Yi graduated from the 18th Artiste Training Class in 2002 and before that, he worked as an accountant in a bank. "After six months, every day just sitting there facing a big pile of numbers and a calculator, calculating and calculating and just making sure everything worked out, I didn't have to move and it was very boring! When I saw an advert in the magazine for the artiste class, I sent the form off. At the time I was not looking to become a star, I just wanted some fun and not to be bored any more."

After three rounds of auditions,he thought he would be rejected, but one of the crew felt he looked a bit like [late singing star] Danny Chan and took him in as a reserve. "Even now, some people think I look like Danny, but I don't think I look like him at all."

After graduating, he played bit parts for nine months. "There were many series where I have been in the background. For example: 'Virtues of Harmony', 'Blade Heart' and 'Perish in the Name of Love'. The funniest thing was in 'Perish', I played seven different roles in one day. I remember the situation filming on that day, a whole group of us from the class were there and we had to stand at the front. The soldier on the top of the city wall was me, then the person shooting the bow and arrow was me and then I was also the guard at the bottom of the gate, then I was a villager. It was very funny. Those days were happy ones."

After this, producer Chin Kwok Wai selected him to play the role of 'Au Yeung Yat' in "Hearts of Fencing", raising his popularity and attracting many young female fans. Following this, he was given role after role and in 2004 was even arranged to join other promoted young male stars: Raymond Lam, Ron Ng, Bosco Wong, Kenneth Ma and Sammul Chan to become the 'Six Olympic Stars'. "That year we had to promote the Olympic Games and to do this, the company chose six young men. At the time, I had just finished filming for 'Hearts of Fencing' and 'Aqua Heroes', so I was very tanned and as I had done some fencing for 'Hearts', then they asked me to join and become an Olympic star, that is what happened. When I first entered the industry, I was not sporty at all and was very pale and had lost about 30 lbs."

Now I would like to have seen Lai Lok Yi like this.

In 'Glittering Days', he played band member Hui Wing Hong. "To be able to sing in this show was great fun."

2003's 'Hearts of Fencing' was Lok Yi's big break.

With five other young stars as 'Six Olympic Stars', Lok Yi says that he does not know the others too well. "I have still not worked with any of them in a series so far, so maybe when the opportunity arises, we will become good friends."

The Best News

Now, he has at least three to four series a year and he feels lucky that his stardom has been so plain sailing in the last few years. I feel that even luckier has been his lack of gossip and even his rumours with Theresa Fu and Race from 2R have quickly fizzled away. Even the recent rumours linking him with Emme Wong and their private date has only lasted two or three days.

"Those (girls) who are linked, then we all know that there is nothing, so we just let them say what they want. In today's showbiz scene, then all a man and a woman have to do is to step slightly closer to each other, then they will be linked in gossip and rumours. I feel this cannot be avoided and you cannot limit your friends to just other men and avoid the women, as this would be very hard work. We are all young people and maybe sometimes we will be photographed chatting, but chatting is nothing and we aren't doing anything else, so it is very normal. People will go out, have dinner and watch movies, but they can still write something negative about you. I really don't like that.

"If I really did want to find a girlfriend, then I will choose someone from outside the entertainment industry. If we are both from showbiz, then if we fall out, then it will affect the other person. We may not be able to adapt to each others working schedules and then it will be easy to link you with your co-stars in the course of filming, then you have to respond and it causes too many problems."

So if you are dating, would you reveal it? "Yes, I would. The audience nowadays are very accepting of artistes with other halves and I am an ordinary person, so it is only normal for me to have a partner by my side. You see Roger (Kwok) and Bobby (Au Yeung) are both married and their popularity has not been affected. Television artistes are a little different from film actors or singers and we don't need to hide our partners away too much."

As for his other negative press being near to zero, does he not worry about his lack of press coverage affecting his popularity? "Louis Koo once said: 'In this industry, no news is the best news.' I feel that is right. You may have a lot of news in a short period of time and always seem to be in the press, but in this industry, it is all about long term progression. Take Chow Yun Fat or Andy Lau for instance, they will not have a short period of a lot of negative press. Maybe you feel it is a little quiet for now, but when you have a good production or series, then other people will know if your existence and you do not need the short term news stories.

"At the beginning when my mother read my reports, she would ask me: 'Son, why are you like this?' Now, she is used to me being written about like this and will not call me about these things any more."

The Strong Sun Rises

Lai Lok Yi's original name is Lai Yat Sing [meaning 'sunrise'] - a name given to him by his father. "Maybe he wanted me to rise up in the world every day. I still use this name on my ID card because I am afraid of the hassle."

As for the name 'Lok Yi', it arose from a misunderstanding. "At the time I was in the training class, there was a form that had a section for a 'stage name'. I thought that every artiste had to have a stage name, so I asked a feng shui master for advice and he gave me a very complicated name with a lot of strokes in it. After that, I used this name for my work pass for TVB and I used this name for everything to do with TVB. After using this name, I felt it was okay and it sounded good. Although it was difficult to write and difficult to read, the best thing about it was that some housewives would see me and say: 'That's that Lai Lok Something. His name's really difficult.' Haha! 'Yat Sing' is still quite a good name, but it is a little ordinary. If I have to change, then of course I want something a bit stronger!"

Lok Yi grew up on a housing estate, his father having died when he was quite young, so it was his mother who brought him and his two brothers up on her own. Lok Yi is the middle of the three. Although his background is not a wealthy one, he is still proud of his good relationship with his family.

"When I was young, my mother had to work and look after us, so she was very strict. We were not allowed to go out to play at any time and she looked after us very well. Although the estate was quite rough, but at least my brothers and I did not turn bad and we studied quite well and had proper jobs, so it was okay.

"My mother has recorded all my series and no matter how well or badly I do, she still says it is very good. Sometimes, she will even force my brothers to watch with her and that is quite funny."

Now, I finally realise why the healthy image is so important to Lok Yi.

Best of Friends

Asking Lok Yi to pose with three shuttlecocks that had faces made me feel very apologetic. After all, badminton makes people think about Yoyo and Ekin. However, in reality, he does do other sports as well as badminton. "I do wakeboarding, basketball and fishing, especially fishing - it is great fun and very relaxing.

"Badminton, I will still continue to play as it is a normal sport. I will not set out to avoid anything and will not let one news item change a lifestyle habit that has no problems, such as going out to eat with friends."

As for his good friends in the industry, then there is more than Yoyo and Ekin. "The three of us are good friends, but there is too much focus on us and the news has made us into the recognised best of friends. I can't avoid that. Actually, I have many other good friends in the industry, Elaine Yiu, Patrick Tang, Selena Li, Bowie Lam, Wayne Lai, Kate Tsui, Claire Yiu... In fact, I see Patrick more than I see Ekin and Yoyo. I have known him for over three years and have been good friends all this time. If we have any problems, then we will help each other immediately, like when I had to sing, then Patrick helped me out and taught me to breathe properly and helped me to rehearse and keep in tune... "

With so many good friends, I should really have prepared a few more shuttlecocks for him to pose with.
