Michael Miu Has Thermal Undies to Beat the Wind and Snow

Michael Miu, Sheren Tang and Toby Leung headed out to Vancouver yesterday to film on location for "The Drive of Life". The weather there at the moment is very cold and snowing heavily, but Michael has not prepared much winter clothing for the trip: "The snow has started to melt there now and as the scenes are supposed to be in July, then we will be on location for most of the shoots and wearing winter clothes will be very bulky, so I will be wearing thermal underwear instead." Have you not been so far away for a while? "I have just been filming on location in Beijing and I have not been to Canada for so long. To go away with a big group of people is quite good because it will be happier and we all get on fairly well. I refer to Toby and Sheren as my daughter and wife!"

Toby is already wearing a scarf and polo neck while she is still in Hong Kong and she smiles: "I will be carrying a big coat to the airport and prepare some warm packs, but I cannot wear the big coats for filming, so I will have to wear some lambswool clothes underneath. We will be there for two weeks and as soon as we land, we have to start filming at 6am the following morning. Filming in such cold conditions will be hard work."

Gigi Lai - Career Going Well, Romance Not So Well

For Gigi Lai, who is 34 years old this year, she has been in the industry now for nearly 20 years, but in the last two years, she has not had any romance: "Women need to have their own career, I do not want to depend on a man!" Gigi has no shortage of courtship, but she does not want to find a boyfriend. When she does, then this person will be the one she wants to marry and as soon as she marries, she will retire from showbusiness. Gigi says: "I can say that I have achieved something in my career after winning Best Actress for 'War and Beauty', however in love, I am not so outstanding!" Gigi says that her ideal partner will be from outside the industry and she will never be the third party in a relationship.

King of Votes - Andy Lau

After taking two awards at this year's TVB Anniversary Awards, Charmaine Sheh has beated 'Fat Tin' Myolie Wu to take the award for My Favourite Female TV Actor at yesterday's inaugural Annual Artistes Awards 2006. Raymond Lam won his justice over Kevin Cheng by taking the award for Favourite Male TV Actor.

Eleven award categories were presented at the event, with Andy Lau and Charmaine both taking two awards. It has been a fruitful year for Charmaine this year, as she also took the bronze award for Favourite Music Newcomer, which came as a surprise. She said: "This year has been a very happy one. (Lots of rewards?) Of course! However, I will continue working hard because to stay on top is harder than getting there." After winning five awards this year, is this enough for Charmaine? She smiles that if she can she would like a few more and hopes that she can break into the Mainland awards. She would also like to take a holiday though becaue her family have come to visit her in Hong Kong, but she has not had time to spend with them and it has been many years since they spent Christmas together.

There are rumours that she and Benny Chan have ended their four year relationship, but Charmaine points out that they have always maintained their friendship, so there is no such thing because they have never dated before. She will be filming in the Mainland at Christmas, so does this mean that potential dates will not be able to invite her out? Charmaine laughs that if she has time she would rather spend it with her family.

Raymond Lam beat Ron Ng, Roger Kwok and Kevin Cheng to win the award for Male TV Actor and after finally winning this award, does he feel justice has been served? He smiles that he hopes this time he will not be a 'surprise entry' for Liza for getting into the top five. He says that he has filmed two series this year and 'La Femme Desperado' was the more memorable one for the viewers. He will continue to work hard filming and he still has three or four series in hand that are yet to air. Raymond will be heading out to Beijing shortly to film for "The Drive of Life" and with suggestions that co-star Joe Ma has had scenes cut from this show due to his playboy image, Raymond says he does not have many scenes with Joe, but the roles have been pre-determined already. Talking of his good friend Ron also being caught out recently with Ella Koon being photographed outside his home, Raymond laughs he is unclear about this and he just goes out to eat with his friends usually.

Steven Ma Rejects Gay Relationships

Steven Ma's sexual orientations have always been suspect and yesterday a magazine suggested that he is gay. Taking part in the International Festival of Inclusive Arts yesterday, Steven reacted to the reports with a laugh.

Steven says that regarding this report, he has already spoken about this numerous times in the past. Then, the rumour was that he was having a homosexual relationship with his manager and he has already responded to this. He feels if he has to explain himself every time, then it gets a bit pointless. When the reporters suggest that he should find a girlfriend to quash the rumours, he does not feel that he should use this as a reason to meet a girl and when the point comes when he is ready to get married, then he will definitely reveal this and his family have never worried about his marriage. Steven emphasises that he just has a laugh from these reports and he is glad that they are not saying that he takes drugs, because he is very against this behaviour and will not make friends with drug addicts. Has he been the target of gay men? He smiles he has not, maybe a few suggestions, but no direct propositions. He feels that even if someone tries to court him, then he will just tell them the truth and they can still continue to be friends. If there is body contact, then he would definitely fight back.

Steven will be joining Kate Tsui and Selena Li to perform with three members of the band Wild Zappers, who are deaf and also sing a duet with blind girl as well as singing the 'Chu Song'. Kate and Selena have spent many hours rehearsing for this show and Kate says that one of the band members is a dance choreographer and although he cannot hear the music, he knows how to dance along to the beat and is very professional.

Linda Chung to take Mother on Japan Shopping Spree

Linda Chung renewed her contract with her skincare sponsors yesterday, accompanied by Lai Lok Yi who performed some magic tricks. Dressed in a sexy but simple black dress for the event, Linda looked a little different from her usual reserved image and said that she had done all the preparation to avoid revealing herself. Her parents are over from Canada to visit her at the moment, so her mother was present at the event yesterday.

Linda says that her fee has doubled this year and the best thing for her is that she will receive sponsored skincare products, saving her some money and she can share them with her brother and her mother. Linda has not had a break in the two and a half years she has been in Hong Kong, so after finishing her series "Gambler Yi takes a Wife", she will be taking two weeks out to go shopping with her mother in Japan. Her father has to work, so he cannot join them. Linda says: "My mother has given up work now, so she has more time to spend with me, but she will not stay in Hong Kong because we still have family in Canada after all. My mum has given up work now because her three children have grown up and I hope that she can enjoy life now." Asked how much she is preparing to spend in Japan, she smiles: "I have not thought about that, but I will be shopping crazy because I have not been shopping for so long."

Lok Yi's magic trick fell through, but he did not mind at all: "Because you (the press) are too professional and like to look at things 'falling through'." Lok Yi has learned some magic tricks, but mainly just little tricks with cards, rubber bands and coins.

Asked if he learned this to charm the ladies, he smiles: "Not necessarily, sometimes if there is a magician at the table you can have a better time. (Do you hope to become a spokesperson for a product?) Of course I would like a big brand sponsor, say a drinks brand or McDonalds! I hope that I can take this on after Eason or I have thought about being spokesperson for a car company because the shoots will be very beautiful."

Fiona Yuen Seeking out Delicacies in London

Seasoned traveller Fiona Yuen was filming for a food programme earlier in England, where she fearlessly visited the turkey slaughter house and the pig farms there, with no worries about bird flu or other diseases. On her fourth trip to London, she says she has had some memorable experiences on this particular trip: "Because I used to live in Germany, so flying to London was like going from Hong Kong to Thailand and I only used to visit my relatives there and did not go to see the sights."

Fiona visited a turkey farm and a pig farm on this visit and also found that there was rabbit meat and other game on sale in the markets, which she had never seen before: "English people do not like to eat this meat fresh, so they dry it to bring out the flavour." With the fears of bird flu around the world, is she not afraid of this? She says boldly: "No, the hygiene standards there are very good and when I went into the slaughterhouse, I had the full disinfectant procedure. I have always done exercise and have good health, so I am not worried. (Did you dare to try the meat?) For chicken you just have to make sure the meat is cooked, but because of the dried meats, there was a funny smell in the market and I did not want to try this."

On her ten day trip, Fiona visited Chelsea football club, where she experienced an English Football game and met an Indian chef: "Although he had broken his arm in a traffic accident, he still worked very hard and made me a lot of tasty foods to try and it made me realise that you should not give up whatever happens to you."

Niki and Kevin Kissing from Hong Kong to Hokkaido

Niki Chow and Kevin Cheng were at the blessing ceremony marking the start of studio filming for their series "The Most Beautiful Seventh Day" amd they will be heading out to Hokkaido for location filming soon. In this most romantic of places, people are asking whether they will have plenty of kissing scenes, but Niki would not reveal this and said: "I don't know, we haven't received the scripts yet, but I do have a kissing scene with the Schnauser dog because we have a lot of scenes together and he is the second male lead in the show. (Have you taken hygiene procedures for kissing a dog?) No, the dog belongs to someone else and we just hire it to film, so I was a little scared."

Asked again if she will have kissing scenes with Kevin in Japan, she jokes: "The dog will not go to Japan, so I don't know." She says that thre is a scene where she has to rescue people in a snowfield and she has to take her coat off to warm up the other people, so she is worried that she will suffer bronchitis because this has happened twice before. As Niki became quite coy, the press moved the questions onto Kevin and he was very open as he said that filming love stories, you have to show how you love each other and of course kissing is the best way, especially in such a romantic place as Hokkaido, they will have to kiss at least once. He and Niki have now worked together in three series, with "Hard Fate" and "Under the Canopy of Love" earlier, where they have already kissed twice. For this new series, they already had a kiss scene almost as soon as filming started so this is the show with the most kissing by far. Niki has shared the most kisses with Kevin on the screen and asked if he will be her human heat pack, he says: "With so many crew around, then we will look after each other. (Will you buy her heat packs?) If we have them we will share them between us."

With earlier reports of a plot to attack him in the mainland, Kevin was asked how the situation was. He said seeming relaxed: "You don't need to be so serious about rumours and after this news broke, a lot of friends from the press have been following me around so I have a lot of protection and don't need to worry."

Lydia Shum is Unhappy with Dishonest Media Sources

Lydia Shum held a special thank you party for her friends and family at a hotel earlier and some trusted members of the press were given a special invite to the event on the understanding that the pictures and reports would not be sold on to the unapproved media outlets. However, it has been revealed that some of the reporters did not keep their word and some of the pictures and reports appeared in papers and media who were not invited. This has made Lydia feel very unhappy.

Lydia says that the event was not a press conference, but a private party and she only invited her friends, but there were some peoeple who did not keep to their promises and sold on the story. This has left her very disappointed and she hopes to find out who the dishonest party was. Lydia's close friend and party organiser Mrs Chan indicated that she will look for the source of the leak, but she believes that those members of the press who were present were honest people. Lydia just wanted to express her situation at the event and as it was a private event, she had the right to limit those in attendance. Friends and media all wanted to just celebrate Lydia's recovery with her, so this betrayal of her trust has left the event a little marred.

Vinci Wong Bathes in Ice for Charity

The annual TVB Tung Wah Charity Fundraising event will take place next Saturday and Cheung Tat Ming, Angela Tong and Vinci Wong were rehearsing for their item at TKO TVB City yesterday. Tat Ming was balancing on two different sized balls, one which is about knee height and the other taller than a person and his balance was quite good. Although there was an action choreographer present, he did not need any assistance. Standing on top of a big ball, he was a little frightened though and he asked the choreographer: "If I fall from this height, would I die?"

Tat Ming has learned some acrobatics before in New York and has balanced on the smaller ball before, but this is his first time on the large one and he hopes that he can learn to skip on the ball or take the ball up a slope because the harder the feat, the more money they will raise. He also plans to let his son learn acrobatics in the future. He says: "Kids need to suffer some hardship and cannot be spoilt." Asked if he will be taking safety precautions for his performance, he says: "Of course not, otherwise I would not be able to raise as much money. Even if I am to get injured, then I would like to be injured on the night so that the donors can see.

Angela and Vinci will be performing an item where they will be lying together in a bath of ice before being covered with more ice and then eating ice lollies. Angela arrived at rehearsals yesterday, but did not get into the icy bath because she said she had a cold and was not feeling well. Vinci continued to sit in the bath and Angela poured the ice onto him. However, he just bit into his first ice lolly before he jumped out, saying he had lost all feeling from his legs and groin area and he had to jump around for five minutes to warm up before he could feel them again. Asked if he was worried about causing himself an injury, he says: "Yes, so I will have to consult with a doctor as to whether the cold will have any lasting effects. I was already so numb after biting into one ice stick, so I don't know how I can perform on the night." When Angela saw this, she suddenly felt the urge to give up and asked if she can stand the cold, she says: "When I was in Canada, I used to stand in temperatures of minus 30 degrees to wait for the busy, but after coming to Hong Kong, I am more sensitive to the cold. This Saturday, I will be heading out to Canada to film on location for 'The Drive of Life', so I will take the chance to practice. (Will you be wearing a bikini for your performance?) That will depend on the donations, I will do it for charity though."

More News from Hacken and Emily's Wedding Day

Hacken Lee and Emily Lo's million dollar wedding was held at Tsimshatsui's Intercontinental Hotel on Tuesday and the bride was moved to tears on several occasions. Although there were no games played on them at the party and there was no tea ceremony, they still tossed the bouquet and sang on the stage as Hacken presented his song 'You are my Sun' to his beautiful wife.

Emily changed into three or four outfits in the course of the evening and was stunning in all of them. The newlyweds are both Manchester United fans, so they opened the event by showing a video from when they had their wedding photos taken at Old Trafford. These photos were all part of the special photo album that was presented to all the guests who arrived with their treasure boxes and also featured was the story of how the couple had met and their romantic love story. Among the photographs were some of Hacken kissing Emily and one where Emily had jumped up and grabbed onto Hacken's waist with her legs. They are both football (soccer) fans, so there was also a picture of them sitting in the stands at the football pitch.

The newlyweds and their parents went on stage to give speeches and Emily shed tears of joy on several occasions. As soon as she started speaking, she wanted to cry and she praised Hacken for being a good husband and she announced that she felt so proud to be marrying him. Hacken replied that she is the person in his life that he loves the most. When Hacken's father gave his speech, Emily cried again. He said how she was a good daughter-in-law and she looks after them and he also thanked his in-laws for allowing their daughter to marry Hacken, making Emily cry again.

As well as tossing the bouquet, the couple offered a toast to their guests and best man Andy Lau and brothers Alan Tam and Nat Chan did a lot of the drinking on Hacken's behalf. Many of the guests were quite merry by the end of the evening, including Andy, Alan, Nat, Virginia Lok, Sheila Chan, Priscilla Chan, Shirley Kwan, who all showed pink faces and were a little wobbly. The person who was most drunk was Eric Tsang, who was already out of it by the half way mark. The other highlight of the evening was the singing, led by the happy couple and followed by songs from Andy and the Wynners. Reports suggest that Paula Tsui and Jacky Cheung were secretly let into the event. After 2:30 am, the guests departed.

Princess Bernice awaits her Prince Moses

Bernice Liu wore a snow white wedding gown for the Opening of the Disney Princess Fantastic Journey event. As beautiful as a real princess, Bernice was chosen as 'Most Perfect Bride' by some young princes and was presented with a limited edition music box.

Bernice wore her elegant gown and was accompanied by a page boy and a flower girl and couples who were celebrating paper and ruby anniversaries were invited to re-enact their proposals. Afterwards, Bernice says that although the dress is beautiful, it is very heavy so when she went down the steps, she had to have two people helping her to carry her skirt. Does she want to choose this style of dress for her own marriage in the future? Bernice laughs she will think about this nearer the time, because she has never dreamed about her own wedding day.

Then Bernice opened her heart and said: "There are so many people getting married and having kids this year. (Has your Prince Moses proposed to you?) I don't know. I have been in the industry for five years, but I still need to work hard." Although she is still not prepared to admit that they are dating, their relationship is an open secret and recently they have been appearing publicly as lovers. She explains: "That was arranged by the company, maybe because they are re-airing 'Love Bond'. We are filming separately though. (Do you mind about getting jobs together?) No, we are working together after all."

TVB Service Awards Ceremony - Roger Kwok receives 20 Year Service Medal

TVB held an evening event to mark its "Long Service and Outstanding Employee Awards Ceremony" and Roger Kwok was among those TVB staff who were presented with his 'medal' for twenty years service with the company. He was very emotional when he made his acceptance speech and says that he hopes that in the future, he will be receiving further awards with his son. He says: "I am very happy and touched, when I go to work it is like a big family and many people care for me, no matter whether things are going badly or well. I not only have my twenty years service award, I want to have thirty or forty years here and I hope that I can bring my future son here to accept these."

It turns out that Roger has never actually left TVB. Even though he went to Taiwan to further his career, he still had a contract with the company. He says: "I joined TVB from 'City Stories' and after receiving this medal, I will treat myself as a newcomer again." As for his future targets, he says he dare not think about it. "However, TVB is a very good company and they have clothed and fed me for so long. They have made me grow up and given me recognition in my career, making me known to Chinese people througout the world. When I get my thirty year medal, my son will be nearly ten years old! (Does that mean you will be a father in Year of the Pig?) I hope so! (Is your wife pregnant?) I don't know, don't give me so much pressure though."

Company chairman Sir Run Run Shaw attended the event with his wife Mona Fong and there have been reports recently that he has repaired his relationship with his son and they have been photographed dining together. Ms Fong responded to this, saying: "There is nothing surprising about dining with his son!" Asked if they have overcome their differences, she says: "You can say that. I have not said anything. Of course Sir Run Run is on good terms with his son. (There are suggestions that the heir will change?) I don't know. Why don't you ask the people who are talking about this." Ms Fong says that each time Sir Run Run's son visits Hong Kong from Singapore, he will visit his father.

For Fiona Yuen who collected her ten year service medal, she speaks of her fellow Miss Hong Kong winners from her year, Lee San San and Chillie Poon, who is now married and in the restaurant business. Asked if she should work harder to find herself a husband, she says: "From thirty to forty, there will be a lot of changes. I am still fine, so there is no rush. I have still not finished enjoying life on my own because you can do so much when you are single." Yu Mo Lin received her 30 year service medal and she joined TVB in 1969. When her contract ends in March next year, she will be retiring. She says: "I don't have many shows nowadays and was just mopping up in 'Glittering Days' so there are no more challenges. After so many decades, it is time to take a rest and enjoy life and go travelling."

Sonija Kwok Swears and Chases Criminals in New Series

Roger Kwok and Sonija Kwok were guest models at a promotional event earlier and afterwards, they stayed on the stage as 'human billboards' for the guests to have their photos taken. As well as their fee, they also received a valuable watch and they denied that they were just billboards because this is part of their work.

Roger and Sonija have been working together filming for a new series together and Sonija plays a police officer who has a nickname 'Terrier' because whenever she sees a criminal, she will chase him and in order to show her vicious side, the crew suggest for Sonija to swear inside her head as she chases. Roger laughs: "When you were filming today, you really said it out loud." Sonija quickly denied this, saying that after two days of filming, she is still finding it very hard. As for co-stars Margie Tsang and Kenneth Ma have been reported to be flirting during filming, but Sonija says she has not seen this and Roger says it is a misunderstanding and he does not believe that they will do this in public. Helping out his colleague, he says: "Kenneth and I have been flirting with each other, but they shouldn't be doing that."

Roger was asked if he has successfully conceived a child yet, but he says not yet. Asked if he is not using contraception, he smiles: "If you keep asking, I will become very embarrassed. We have plans and hope for next year, but it is not something that happens when you want it to." He sends his congratulations to Hacken on his wedding and wishes that they have a child soon.

Lydia Shum Thanks a Full House of Friends for their Love

Happy Fruit Lydia Shum held a special party to show her gratitude to all her friends, medical staff and press for the care and support that they have shown her during her illness. The event was organised by Lydia's good friend Chan Shuk Fan and only specially selected members of the press were invited, not including those publications who had reported falsely beforehand. Security was tight as ID's were checked at entry to avoid any chaos, but those who had not been invited were still waiting outside and when Lydia arrived, they caused a ruckus on the road.

After three weeks of rest and recouperation after her discharge from hospital, Lydia was joined by her daughter Joyce, her sisters, her consultant Dr Lo and thirty-five of her best friends, including Eric Tsang, Jacky Cheung, Deborah, Lee Heung Kam, Tang Kwong Wing and TVB executives Stephen Chan and Virginia Lok. Although Lydia was still a bit shaky as she came down the steps, she still dressed for the occasion in three inch pink heels to match her pink suit. Lydia was in high spirits and looked well as her trademark laughter could be heard often.

The MC for the event was Derek Li and he indicated that this private party was for Lydia to thank everyone for their support and care. She hopes that the media present will report truthfully and with integrity and respect her wishes not share this information with any other media organisations not present. When Lydia's friends were seated, then then Lydia took centre stage and she started by thanking everyone for attending. She says that if you have one good friend in life it is already a great thing, so for her to have so many good friends, then she is truly honoured. She thanked the professors at the Queen Mary Hospital because without them, she would not have escaped from the gates of death; also the media who have guarded outside the hospital night and day; her friend Chan Shuk Fan who flew out to Thailand especially to pray for her to get better after finding out about her condition and pledging to eat no meat for a year; the PR staff at the hospital for the arrangements allowing her to avoid the press; Tang Kwong Wing and his wife for recommending her to such a wonderful medical team and for Mrs Tang who took her into hospital on the day her illness struck; the TVB executives who presented her with a DVD with clips of many messages from well wishers; Eric and Jacky for standing up for her after the Indonesian maid incident and bringing her to justice.

Lydia says: "Thank you to TVB for giving me so many opportunities to do charitable work over the years. To have passed through such a difficult time, I feel it is to do with my charity , so everyone should do more charity work." She also thanks Deborah for her Curry Fish Head Pot, which made her realise her illness after eating it; Teacher Hui Pui for crying with worry every day and for coming to visit her even when she had poor knees; Lee Heung Kam for praying every day and bowing to the gods; Woo Fung and Yu Chi Ming who were so emotional at the hospital that they were laughing and crying and making her realise the value of friendship. Lydia also says that her daughter does not like studying and only loves singing, so she is grateful for Master Liu Chia Chiang for accepting her as his student, so she urges Joyce to cherish this opportunity. She says that Yan Chan welcomed Joyce to stay at her home if anything happened. Willie Chan had also called her to pass on best wishes from Jackie Chan. Lydia is thankful to her sisters who have been by her side during her time in hospital and says: "Also, my mother and daughter - one is 19 years old the other is 95 years old. Without them I would not have had such a great will to continue living. I do not want my mother to be unhappy and I do not want my daughter to be without me."

There were no questions from the press at the event yesterday, but Derek spoke on their behalf as he asked Lydia about the various reports of late. He started by asking her how her health was. Lydia said: "Full of vitality, but I have lost 20 lbs. The tumour weighed 6 lbs though." She smiles as she pats her chest: "This has gone down too! Haha!" As for reports that the reason she missed the TVB anniversary was because she was to ill to get out of bed, she said: "There was no such thing, don't be so unlucky! It is because I have a lot of scars after my operation and I have a Mercedes Benz logo on my abdomen, so I cannot wear a bra or dress up. To avoid affecting everyone, I decided to just join everyone with my voice." As for the reports that she is selling her apartment to split her wealth with Cheung Yiu Wing, she laughs out loud and says: "I have a complex relationship with Boss Cheung and we have a lot of ties, but I am not his mistress, but I am the godmother of his grandchild and we have known each other for many years. He is a good man and will not con you and if there was anything between us, then he would not be here today." Asked about rumours that she had to sell up properties in Hong Kong and Canada to pay for her rocketing hospital bills, Lydia asks Derek whether he believes this before saying: "The house in Canada was bought because Joyce was studying there and only my mother and two maids live there. As my sister is unable to drive to take care of my mother, she decided to take my mother to live at her home and this left the house empty. Thus I decided to sell up, but it has been dragged out until now." As for handing her daughter over to Master Liu, Lydia asked Master Liu to reply to this and he laughed: "Talking of age, it is me who needs to hand over my children."

Lydia also praises Adam Cheng for being formidable because he has been to visit her so many times whilst she was in hospital. She says: "Although we are no longer husband and wife, we can still be friends and if he didn't have an element of gallantry, he could not do this." Asked why Adam was not present at the party, Lydia explained that he had just returned from a stage performance with Liza in Canada and America and has had to fly immediately to Shanghai to film an ad, so he was unable to attend. Lydia goes on to talk about how Joyce is like a protected flower and growing up in a single parent environment, she has had everything laid out for her, but this experience has been an opportunity for her to learn and mature, so she hopes that Joyce will be as good as she has been forever. Although she was undergoing some hardship with her illness, it has brought her relationship with her daughter so much closer and this has taught Joyce to cherish her parents even more. At this point, Derek asked Joyce to go on the stage to give her mother a kiss. Asked if she will be going back to Canada to rest in December, Lydia confirms this and says that she has not seen her mother since she was admitted to hospital on 15th September and her mother has a sixth sense with her and has worn a frown ever since. As it is her mother's 95th birthday on 30th December, then Lydia will be joining her for Christmas and the New Year.

Lydia then invited Dr Lo to explain her condition. The doctor insisted there was no need to do this, but Lydia explained that there is no privacy in the life of a celebrity, so the doctor complied admirably: "Lydia was suffering from a tumour in her liver and underwent surgery to remove three sections of the right part of her liver. Although the procedure was complicated, it went smoothly, but there were some complications where the kidney failed slightly and there was a blockage in an intestine. This has all been resolved now and there was no need for chemotherapy or radiotherapy after the tumour was removed. We still have to observe her carefully though." Lydia added that she is very afraid of death, so four days before leaving hospital, she was still asking the doctor to do more MRI scans and biopsies as she prayed for good resuls. In the end, when she saw the doctor's face beaming, then she realised the value of life and kissed the doctor's hands several time.

Asked if Lydia was in grave danger at one point, Dr Lo indicated that all surgery is dangerous, otherwise she would not have been admitted into intensive care, but during this time, Lydia was very strong and she had total confidence in the doctors. She also had a lot of determination from her family's support, so when she awoke, she was able to show her trademark laughter again.

At the end of the questions, Lydia and Joyce presented the hospital staff with a plaque to show her gratitude and Joyce presented flowers to Dr Lo and the hotel boss of the Hyatt Hotel chain Mr Chu Man Hong. Lydia was then presented with a cake and wished with good health by her friends before bringing the event to a close as Lydia and her friends retired to a private room for a tea party.

Hacken Lee and Emily Lo's Million Dollar Wedding Banquet

Congratulations to Hacken and Emily!

Hacken Lee and Emily Lo have finally ended their thirteen year courtship and tied the knot at Tsimshatsui's Intercontinental Hotel with a 46-table banquet. The best man and chief bridesmaid were Andy Lau and Emily's younger sister and the brothers and sisters entourage included Joey Leung, Lau Wai Hang, Chin Kwok Wai, Margaret Chung, Ada Choi and Stephanie Che. A hundred people from the press were also present to cover the event. At this marriage, there was no 'collection of the bride' or registration, just a ten minute session for the press to take some photographs. Hacken had also prepared a press release statement for the reporters, telling of their happiness and some details about the event.

Hacken and Emily just used 'Very Happy' to describe their feelings. In the statement, Hacken indicated: "As the bridegroom on my big day, there is so much to do. The banquet will be a grand, but simple affair and we have not prepared any particular entertainment or any big prize raffles for it. We have no plans to have our next generation just yet, we just want to share our happy occasion with our family and good friends and celebrate our transition into the next stage of our lives."

"When the banquet begins, everyone will hear an old song playing at the hotel that is 'You are my sunshine" and this will be the entrance music because this was the first song that I wrote for Emily when I was dating her, so there is a special meaning. Our menu is very simple and it is not like the reports have suggested to be caviar and duck liver pate. The Wynners concert will be taking place at the Coliseum in February and not at my wedding party. The only special event arranged is that I will be showing a video of us when we were having our wedding photos taken in England, to share our happiness with us. I will say this again that I will not be going on a honeymoon and will continue working and promoting my record."

The newlyweds were dressed in white outfits and Emily wore a white strapless gown with some precious jewellery. During the photo session, the couple were asked to share a kiss, but they pretended not to hear and did not respond. After the photos, they did not answer any questions and entered the hotel for their banquet.

The hotel lobby and corridors were lined with white lilies and roses and looked like a garden. A special area was cordoned off for the press and over ten security guards were on hand to keep order. The newlyweds were due to appear for photographs at half past four, but after waiting for an hour, they had still not appeared and Ada and Margaret were sent out to humour the press first. Ada was asked what she has bought the couple and she says she is a rather practical person and as they already have everything, including love and career, then she has given them money. Margaret knows that they like to play golf, so she has bought them something that they will like. After this, Alan Tam and Nat Chan appeared and Alan laughed that they had to see the parents first before they saw the press, but Nat joked that he was the father figure. The two then pretended to kiss and share their drinks, creating a lot of amusement.

Alan says that you only get married once, so especially for the women, you cannot rush the bride because she has to look her best for her big day. Alan says that he has rehearsed several songs and he will be singing for the couple at the reception. Asked if Hacken was very nervous, Alan says he was fine and asked what give he had given them, Nat indicated that the Wynners and friends had chipped in to buy rings and they were chosen by Albert Au's wife. Alan says he has given a lucky packet as well as his songs, which he laughs are worth a seven figure sum! When Nat suggested to Alan that he should give them his fortune, he said quickly: "I can't do that!" Asked if he has had his tea yet, he says he will have it late, laughing that his age and rank are high so there is no getting out of it.

At around 5:50pm, the couple finally appeared accompanied by Andy and Margaret. The fans applauded to congratulate them and Hacken was very careful as he supported Emily, whilst she showed her care for him as she fixed his appearance. Dressed in her beautiful white gown, diamond earrings and necklace, one ring on her left hand and three on her right, Emily looked stunning. After ignoring requests for a kiss and posing with their entourage, that included Hacken's godmother Leung Shun Yin, Hacken thanked the press for their hard work before heading upstairs. The whole event is estimated at around $1 million.

The guests then started to arrive, each with their Moon Treasure Box invitations and the banquet started at 6:15 pm, led by Stephanie Che, Simon Yam, Lam Kin Ngok and many others. Andy indicated that he has given the couple a large voucher and an electronic photo frame with many photographs of the happy couple from over the years in it.

Simon attended the party on his own and indicated that his wife Qiqi is currently working away. Asked what he has bought them, he says he will give them the words "Have a child soon!" because he wants his daughter to have someone to play with. Asked what tips he has for them, Simon said at first it was secret, but later he reveals that they should eat more fish. Other guests included Edmond Leung and his girlfriend, Paco Wong and Helena Law. Helena says she has given them a lucky packet and wishes them many happy and harmonious years together. Asked if she wishes them to have children soon, she smiles: "Of course!"

Also at the party were Eric Tsang, Carol Cheng and Lui Fong, Stephen Wong (Ka Keung) and his heavily pregnant wife, Cally Kwong, Timmy Hung and his girlfriend, Chin Ka Lok and Chan Kwok Keung. Edmond arrived with his girlfriend and Paco and asked what gift he had bought, he says it was a secret. As for when it was his turn, Edmond asked Paco: "When is it my turn?" to which Paco replied that his career should come first.

When Eric arrived, TVB General Manager Stephen Chan also arrived at the same time and the press pulled them together for photos, but Eric joked: "Why do I have to stand with him?". Eric says that he has contributed towards the group gift of the rings. When it was mentioned that Alan has given a seven figure gift, Eric laughs that he will not exaggerate. Asked if they will be playing games with the newlyweds, Eric says that he will be discussing this with them. As for whether he will be taking some drinks for Hacken, he laughs that he is not very tolerant of his drink, so Nat will be better than him at this.

When Carol and Lui Fong arrived, they were asked when it was their turn to get married, but they put the blame on each other and Carol pointed at Lui Fong saying: "He has his philosophy." Lui responded that it will be hard because unlike Hacken, he has never won the Best Male Singer award and nor have they dated for 13 years. Carol immediately asked: "Have we not had 13 years?" to which Lui replied clearly that they had been together for 12 years. When the reporters asked if they were going to get married next year, Carol laughed: "Lui Fong has not won the Best Singer award yet, never mind three years of it!"

Sheren Tang Finds Understanding from Visiting the Poor

As the ambassador for a Helping Poverty campaign, Sheren Tang took part in a 'Have an Apple for Lunch' event yesterday with some students to promote the message of helping the poor. Sheren says that ging hungry is not hard work because for an artiste, it is something she is used to. Sheren says: "Apples are healthy and can be used to lose weight, so you can help others and help yourself."

Sheren says that she was in a meeting witht he cast of "The Drive of Life" and she convinced thirty people to donate and sponsor her for this event. Earlier Sheren made a trip to the mountains to visit the poor children and tasted the lunch of a poor family. She says: "I ate some sweetcorn porridge and a grey bun, but for Sheren, she says that this was the sweetest and tastiest food ever because it was all completely natural." Sheren says that if she has the chance, she will go and visit them again because after seeing them, she will cherish even more everything that she has.

Sheren says: "Fame and fortune are no longer important, to eat a good meal and wear warm clothing is already enough. If you think this way you will be a lot happier. In the past, I liked to laze around in bed and it was a huge pain to wake up at 6am to go to work, but the children in the villages have to get up every morning at 4am to go to school and they are still so happy. I am already so much better off than them, so if I am not content, then this makes me even poorer than they are."

Bosco Takes Natalie's first Screen Kiss

Natalie Tong was filming earlier for "The Most Beautiful Seventh Day" in a scene where she gives away her first screen kiss to Bosco Wong. Although Bosco is quite experienced, he became a little nervous himself when he saw how frightened she was. Asked if she had notified boyfriend Amigo Chui, she denied that she has a boyfriend. Bosco laughs that after taking her first time, then he should really give her a lucky packet. As this is the first series that Bosco and Natalie have filmed together, they talked about the scene beforehand to avoid any unnecessary rumours.

Shirley Yeung Doesn't Need Sexy to Make Money

Shirley Yeung took part in a skincare promotion yesterday where she was given an award for the 'Best Vitality Skin' and although it is nothing major, she was smiling away as she received it, showing there was some happy news for her. After much questioning, she reveals that she has accepted an offer to shoot a film, alongside Roger Kwok, Yuen Wah and Yuen Chau, which comes with a six figure fee and does not need her to be sexy, so no wonder she is smiling so broadly. Asked if she will be buying herself a new car as a reward for herself, she smiles that she already has one, so she will not buy another just yet.

As for the award, which part of her skin does she feel is the best? She thinks a little while and then says: "My back! (Has your boyfriend complimented how smooth your back is?) No, I rarely let him see my back. (Surely not?) Because we talk to each other face to face, so I will not turn my back to him." Shirley says that in this industry you have to wear make-up a lot, so this can make your skin very poor, but fortunately she asks her colleagues for their skincare tips and her mother makes her soup, so this helps to improve her skin a lot.

"Dicey Business" First Week Ratings are Good

TVB series "Dicey Business" has received its first week ratings results and a special promotional event was held yesterday at Olympian City where the cast split into two groups to hold a "Card Game Challenge". Great buddies Bobby Au Yeung and Jessica Hsuan worked well together and as the only young male lead in the show, Bosco was made to kiss all the girls, such a sacrifice for his art!

Other cast members present yesterday included Michael Miu, Leanne Li, Benz Hui and Timothy Zao. Bobby and Bosco went 'lips to lips' for the ball sucking game and then they invited the audience members to impersonate the kiss by Jessica and Michael in the show, but when Bosco was demonstrating this, he put a sticker over his lips first, making Jessica laugh. Michael then smiled at Bosco and said: "I know you have wanted to kiss Leanne for so long now, so I will give you the honour." Bosco followed Bobby's lead and put a sticker on his lips to demonstrate the kiss with Leanne. Bobby then suggested that Bosco kissed some of the audience members and a middle-aged woman came on the stage, threw her arms around him for the kiss and then afterwards she raised her arms up in the air victoriously. When the other cast members saw this, they all turned to him and said: "Thanks for your hard work for our ratings!" Two female fans also went on to present Bosco with a cake and some flowers to wish him an early Happy Birthday, together with a birthday kiss, so he shared the cake with everyone there and then.

(additional pic from Mingpao)

Talking of his 'fortunes' for the day, Bosco laughs that this was all thanks to Bobby. With his birthday in two weeks time, Bosco will be working and asked who he would most like a birthday kiss from, he says: "I want the producer [Amy Wong] to kiss me!" He also adds that he had no feeling about being kissed by an older lady and laughs that he often kisses his mother and Ha Ping as a mark of respect. His birthday wish is to break his record six figure tax bill next year by paying a seven figure sum. [in other words, Bosco wants to earn more money]

Bobby and Jessica are both happy with the results for the first week and they showered each other with compliments about their performances. Jessica laughs: "I have never seen Garfield [Bobby] crying so much before." She agrees that there is some chemistry between them even after not working together for so long. Jessica indicates that she is happy that her character has been accepted by the viewers as she has had good responses from her friends. In the past, Jessica never gambled, but in order to play this character, she has found out how addictive gambling can be and you have to have a lot of self-control.

Michael says that this series is not promoting gambling, it is actually a warning about what can happen to you if you become overly obsessed with gambling. His son and daughter have been supporting him and they know how to identify each of the characters in the show. His own character is someone who will do anything to further his career, including making Jessica's character pregnant. Andy Lau had earlier invited the other four 'tigers' to shoot a movie together and Michael admitted this did happen and he has no reason to turn Andy down. He is greatly looking forward to working with everyone again.

Ron has No Comment on Ella Incident

Ron Ng appeared at an event yesterday and was asked about the reports that rumoured girlfriend Ella Koon had been spotted outside his home and that she had made suggestions of their split during questioning afterwards. Responding for the first time after the reports broke, Ron just replied with "No Comment", seemingly wanting to distance himself from Ella.

Asked if he has split from Ella, he neither admits or denies this and just says: "No comment. Ella and I are friends and there is no promotion or demotion of our relationship to speak of. I really do not want to respond to any of this as I am putting my work first. People who know me will know I am not very good at talking, so to avoid more misunderstandings, I will not respond. I will thank the people around me and the magazine reports." With the report that Ella had sent a message to him about this, he says that he has only seen the cover of the magazine and has not read the reports. So have they contacted each other since? Are there any more of Ella's items in his home? He continues: "No comment. My work comes first and I don't want to talk about my family or my relationships." Are you stopping all male friends from visiting your home? He says: "My family members are okay, but few female friends come to my home, Ella is one of these." So this shows they have a very close friendship? He says nervously: "It is not related, sometimes female dancers will come and visit and have a party, but for now it is better to have just me at home."

Ella was asked about Ron again at another event and she did not want to talk about this either and says she is relaxing by playing the piano. Ron says about this: "No comment, you saw how small the bag was (the one that Ella removed from Ron's home) and you can see how deep the relationship was. (Is this just s smokescreen to move your relationship underground?) I have never admitted to dating and time will prove everything."

Kevin Cheng Falls off a Building but has No Fear and No Danger

Kevin Cheng was filming a scene yesterday at a Tseung Kwan O school for "The Most Beautiful Seventh Day" and although he was arranged to sit on the edge of the roof on the 8th floor to film part of the scene, he was only actually required to jump from the first floor to the ground. With the safety precautions in place, there was a soft landing waiting for him in the form of an airbag. Despite the relatively small drop, when he fell into the airbag, there was a very loud noise, suggesting there was still an element of danger in this.

Kevin says that this is the first time he has been in a scene where he has to jump from a building and smiles that if he really did have to jump from the 8th floor, then he would be scared, but as he only had to jump from the first floor and he is not afraid of heights, he could handle this. He has taken part in rock-climbing events in Australia before and that was more exhilarating. He smiles: "I have been filming on the 8th floor since this morning and I also tried some jumps into cardboard boxes. The crew said that cardboard was harder work, so for the ultimate in safety, then the airbag was used. You even have to warm up to jump off a building."

Niki Chow was also present at the filming of this scene and she she was hugging her pet dog that her character in the series keeps. She reveals that the 'rent' paid for this dog is $6000 a day and is not cheap at all. Asked if she was worried about Keving and his jump scene, Niki smiles: "No, men don't usually worry about these scenes. Kevin just said to me 'I am off now' when he went up."

Niki says that she is not afraid of heights, but she is afraid of gravity. When she was in Las Vegas, she went onto a drop ride and she still remembers it vividly and she daren't go on them again because she was so frightened. She also says that she will be heading out to Nagoya in January to film for the series on location, but because of her tight filming schedule, she will not have time to go shopping or extend her stay.

Prince Roger & Princess Bernice at Christmas Event

Roger Kwok and Bernice Liu dressed up as a fairytale prince and princess at the opening of a shopping mall yesterday and as well as cutting the ribbon, they also performed some songs for the audience. Roger laughs that this princess is taller than him, but he has to sing the duet from his series "Glittering Days" with her. He says: "When this series was aired, I have had plenty of opportunities to make some money and I hope that I will have a 'fat' new year."

When Bernice heard Roger's comment about her being taller than him, she said: "Of course I am not as suited to him as his wife!" She also reveals that she has to buy a lot of Christmas gifts for people, but she has not had time to go shopping. Asked if she will be buying a present for Moses, she smiles: "I will give to good friends. I have been taking part in promotions every other day recently and I don't have time to go shopping for presents. The Christmas gift I would like is an apartment. My parents have been to look around for one, but they think it is better if I go and look for myself. I have most of my furniture already, I am just missing my 'shell'."

Margie Tsang says Rain Lau has the Real Thing

Margie Tsang was filming yesterday for new series "Curious Detective" and she says that after ten years away from filming, her performance is so-so and she has not had too many NG's (outtakes). She reveals that one of the NG's was because she accidently knocked into Rain Lau's chest: "I can bear witness that Rain Lau's bust is definitely the real thing!" As she said this, she pretended to grasp Rain, who defended herself by saying: "I have loved watching your series since I was young!" Rain says that they are working together for the first time, but they are both very fun people, so they should get on very soon.
