[Ta Kung Pao 22/08/06]

Kevin Cheng held his first concert in eleven years on Sunday as he took centre stage at the Hong Kong International Trade and Exhibition in Kowloon Bay. Many showbiz friends joined him as guest performers and as well as rumoured girlfriend Niki Chow, others included Karen Tong, Miriam Yeung, Raymond Lam and Ivana Wong. Kevin's mother and TVB executives Catherine Tsang and Virginia Lok were also there to lend their support. Although Kevin and Niki both deny their romance, their fans seem to have accepted this already and when Niki appeared on the stage, the fans were frenzied. As they both have August birthdays, a birthday cake and some wedding dolls were produced for them as gifts and Niki laughed: "It's like a wedding party, isn'tt his a bit over the top? It is my birthday in August, but you don't need to go this far!"

Jacky Cheung worked with Kevin when he was still with Polygram and although he was not there in person, he sent a clip to give Kevin his vote of encouragement. Jacky told of how Kevin was forced to try his luck in Taiwan after his music career did not take off and when he was unhappy, he would talk to Jacky and ask for advice. Jacky says that he hopes Kevin will cherish this new opportunity and everything he has.

After this, Kevin sung Jacky's song "This Winter is Not so Cold", whilst doing a very stiff fan dance, that became quite comical. Even Niki mocked Kevin, telling him never to dance again, but she still scored him 100% for being so brave.

Miriam was the final guest star and she and Kevin talked about how they had met and then Miriam indicated that she has a new song looking for a partner for the music video and she would like Kevin to help her out. Kevin asked for permission from Catherine jokingly, but the executive took this all very seriously and after the show, she approached Miriam and told her Kevin had some time in his schedule to shoot the video for her. At this point, a rather sheepish Miriam apologised to Catherine, saying that she doesn't in fact choose any of her co-stars because this is left to the company to organise.

Kevin has rated himself 60% for this performance and he hopes that he will do even better in the future. He admits that dancing is not his strength and he hopes to improve this. As for the whole 'wedding scene' with Niki, is he quite happy with this? Kevin insists that he is not married yet. As for his fans' acceptance, he says that they just support their characters from "Under the Canopy of Love". When it was suggested that a lot of screen lovers get together, he disagrees and laughs that you can't pair Adam Cheng and Liza Wang together, even if they have worked as a pair so many times.

Andy Hui and Myolie Wu were filming on location in Tsimshatsui's Observatory Road for their series "Lush Fields Happy Times" in a scene where Andy falls over when he is drunk and Myolie has to pick him up. However, Andy weighs 156 lbs and with Myolie just a few lbs lighter than him, she was finding it incredibly hard work as they NG'ed on several occasions. She felt very bad at not being able to complete the scene after Andy was aching all over, so she wiped his sweat with a tissue to make it up for him.

Myolie laughs that their weight is very similar with just a couple of cakes between them, so picking Andy up was very hard because she could not balance her strength. Asked if she had told Andy not to eat before filming the scene, she says that she couldn't. She just says that this scene can only be described as 'hard work' and she says she has given Joe Ma a piggyback before, but this is the first time she has had to pick up a man.

For Andy, this is also a new experience because has never been carried by a woman. He laughs that he is a man afer all and the most he will do is lean on their shoulders because he has to hang on no matter what happens. He believes that when a person is drunk, they will be especially heavy because when he was drunk on one occasion ten years ago, it was down to Edmond Leung and Dicky Cheung to help him home and when he passed out outside his home, it took them half an hour to get him back into his house.

Gigi Lai, Kevin Cheng and Catherine Chow were at the studio blessing ceremony for TVB series "An Easy Life" yesterday. Gigi's character in the show has a paralysed right arm, so she has to use her left arm for all her actions and because she has been using her left hand so much in filming, she has found herself becoming more and more left handed in real life too.

'Mini-Gigi' Kathy Yuen will be playing the younger Gigi in the show and asked if filming for the first time was hard work, she says: "Not at all! The other cast members are all very good to me and they know I am a newcomer, so they often teach me and give me tips. (Have you been scolded for too many NG's?) No, even if they do, I can stand it." Asked if she thinks she resembles Gigi, she says that her friends think that she does, but she does not. As for Gigi, she says: "Her facial shape is very similar, with a pointy chin and she is a pretty girl!"

Nancy Wu, Fala Chen, Matthew Ko, Erica Yuen and Yoyo Chan took part in a promotional event for TVB Pay Vision yesterday encouraging the public to send in pictures and clips of good food from their mobile phones. Nancy indicated that she does use her phone to take photographs but rarely to shoot movies. She says: "The memory is not very large, so I would rather use a digicam to film videos."

With the earlier news of her split with singer Deep Ng, Nancy met with the press for the first time since the news broke yesterday, so she was asked if they had broken up peacefully. She admitted this openly, saying that they had been dating for two years. ASked why they did not get on, she says: "I don't want to say what the real reason was, I am only confirming the news because we are both artistes. A relationship is a personal thing and I don't want to say too much. To confirm it is enough." Will they be embarrassed if they have to work together again? She says: "No, if we have to work together, then we will put our work first."

TVB's new game show "King of Games" began filming earlier with guest stars Shirley Yeung, Gregory Lee, Wong He, Halina Tam, Lam Chi Chung and Tin Kai Man and hosts Jerry Lamb, Nancy and Sam Li. As a couple, Shirley and Gregory were instantly the target for the jokes and tricks and at the beginning of the filming, there was suddenly some wedding music playing and it was suggested that they should get married there and then. Despite many years of dating, Shirley and Gregory seem to be lacking a little in co-operation and in a cushion jumping game, Shirley's chin kept bumping into Gregory's back, leaving her a little embarrassed. She says: "I did not know how to play this game beforehand and even if you are dating, you may not be totally synchronised with each other!"

Having earlier revealed that she has told her grandmother that she is too busy working to get married, Charmaine Sheh has been rather free lately as she has been heading out on leisure trips to refresh herself. However, her latest destination was not the female shopping heaven that is Japan or Europe, but to neighbouring Macau. Having filmed there previously for the series "Return of the Cuckoo" with Julian Cheung, it doesn't seem she will be creating any more rumours with him on this occasion.
