[Ta Kung Pao & The Sun 11/07/06]

To celebrate the inauguration of TVB's Pay Vision Entertainment News Channel, an opening ceremony was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Central, attended by TVB Deputy Chairman Mr Leung Nai Pang and TVB General Manager Mr Stephen Chan.

In a presentation that paralleled the annual Anniversary Extravaganza, the whole group of TVB's own artistes were joined by other stars such as Andy Lau, Leon Lai, Jackie Chan and Hacken Lee, as well as EEG and Gold Label stars including Twins, Joey Yung, Yumiko Cheng, Alex Fong (Lik Sun), Leo Ku and Ronald Cheng, although the rumoured couples Alex and Gillian Chung and Ronald and Charlene Choi were not available to be photographed together. Asked about their respective rumoured boyfriends, Charlene refused to answer any questions, but Gillian was open and said that if they saw each other, then they would say hello because they are all TVB's sons and daughters. Asked if they would be prepared to open their doors to the TVB Entertainment Channel crews, Charlene said: "I am a hoarder, so my room is full of boxes, I would have to tidy up first." As for Gillian, she said: "If my room was too messy, then I would borrow a friends room instead." Andy Lau has already been the subject of a home visit programme twenty years ago, so now he is offering himself as a host for a cookery programme.

TVB's own artiste presence included Carol Cheng, Liza Wang, Bernice Liu, Moses Chan, Melissa Ng, Gigi Lai, Myolie Wu, Angela Tong, Steven Ma and Jessica Hsuan. All the ladies were dressed up in their best outfits and Myolie, Angela and Gigi wore low cut tops, with Myolie's fuller figure exaggerated. She says that she has increased her bust size, but when the press suggested she shouldn't lose it, she says: "I can't do that, I want to be slimmer than before."

In his publicity clip, Eric Tsang suggested that Joey Yung was the most suited to cosmetic surgery and asked about this, Joey said that she didn't mind: "It is just a gimmick! Eric is very witty and if you don't like it you can just ignore it. He is very sharp." Hailing from TVB all those years ago, Leon says that TVB needs an element of his support. As for filming his home, he says: "They haven't asked me yet. (Do you need to seek your justice?) I don't need this yet, the reports have not affected me." Talking of Shu Qi admitting that Takeshi Kaneshiro makes her heart beat, Leon says that he has worked with Takeshi before and he is a good actor, so men and women will like him. As for Shu Qi's heartbeat, Leon says: "I won't talk about other people's business."

Whilst all the contracted artistes were busy keeping their noses clean with TVB, Jackie has no such issue, so he was free to express his opinions. Having earlier taken part in a similar event for Cable TV's entertainment news channel, Jackie was asked what he would be doing for TVB's channel. He replied: "I don't have a contract, so I can appear on any channel. It has been this way in the States for a long time, so Hong Kong should follow suit. (Do you think that TVB have a monopoly?) No, I just feel that the Asian markets are like this and change should start from the big companies. (Do you feel a duty to change this?) No, it should start from the big enterprises, someone has to sacrifice first."

The event allowed the artistes three minutes each to address the guests and Sonija Kwok indicated that she has been covered by the shell of gossip lately. Kevin Cheng didn't know what to talk about, so Eric suggested that he talked about Tai Si Chung. When Alex Fong was asked if he had seen Gillian, he said that there were too many people there. As for the show on this channel that film's celebrity homes, he says that he can offer his home because his parents are very hospitable.

Originally, the sixteen Miss Hong Kong contestants had been arranged to show off their swimwear on the beaches of Jeju, but as there is a typhoon brewing there, they have had to stay in the hotel for the shoot. Although the girls appeared in bikinis, they still had a sarong around their legs, so the audience were a little disappointed. Number 8 Suki Chui Suk Man showed a scar from when she had her appendix out so she tilted herself away from the camera. Number 3 Florence Li Wing Sze and Number 14 Wendy Lee Wing Chi revealed some bra marks under their shoulders.

It was the 23rd birthday of Number 1 Amy Tsang Oi Mei on Sunday and after dinner, the guest performer Roger Kwok suddenly brought her out a birthday cake to celebrate as the other fifteen contestants sung 'Happy Birthday' to her. Afterwards, Roger gave into public demand and gave her a special birthday kiss on her cheek. Asked what her birthday wish was, she says it is a secret, otherwise it wouldn't come true, so she would not reveal it. She also revealed that she likes to do yoga to maintain her figure.

The World Cup final was aired last night at 2am Hong Kong time, but before the match, TVB held a special show, celebrating the retirement of commentary veteran Spencer Lam, inviting many of his footballing friends on the show to share their memories. Jordan Chan, Chin Ka Lok and Jerry Lamb have all filmed with Spencer in movies, so they attended together with other guests including Raymond Lam, Ron Ng and Kevin Cheng. Ekin Cheng also called Spencer on the show, saying that he had learned how to deal with being kicked in the groin area and how to stop the pain. The atmosphere on the night was very lively.

After the match was over, a special party was held for Spencer and TVB executive Stephen Chan presented him with a crystal world cup replica. The Sports Chairman of the Kitchee Football Club Ng Kin also presented Spencer with a football shirt marked with his name.
Uncle Spencer has his heart set on leaving now and when people expressed their wish for him to continue commentating, he insisted that he would not be continuing, because retirement is a stage that everyone will reach and he has no regrets and he is not sad at all, but he is thankful to he audiences and listeners who have supported him over the years. He said loudly: "Uncle is retiring from now onwards."

Hacken Lee presented Uncle Spencer with a special card signed by all the guests and indicated that despite the huge amount of gossip surrounding the World Cup coverage this year, but they have worked together well. When Uncle heard this being mentioned, he reacted quite strongly and said it was all pointless and false rumours that he hates. Hacken says frankly that he will miss Unlce because there are fewer and fewer good commentators now. As for Zidane's red card in the final, Uncle felt that this was a shame because he was unable to put a perfect end to a legendary footballer.

Hacken supported Zidane, saying that he was very suave and we don't know exactly what happened as the Italian player may have been making inflammatory comments to make upset Zidane. He says that the football pitch is an arena for heroes, but people have emotions and maybe Zidane was pushed to his limit to react in such a violent way. Hacken feels that Zidane may not completely be in the wrong.

Sonija Kwok and model Rosemary took part in a shopping centre event earlier, where they had to prepare some French and Italian dishes as well as do some body painting. Sonija seemed calm whilst she was cooking as she seemed quite at home in the kitchen. She says that she has learned the skill of making soup from her mother, but she makes soup to help her complexion and health and not to win over men. However, she agrees that for women who know how to make soup, they will be good wives and she has made soup for her boyfriends before.

Sonija indicates that she will be celebrating her birthday on the 22nd of this month and asked if she would like to have a birthday wish advert like Michelle Reis this year, she says she would not. Asked if she would like to have a birthday celebration with tycoon Chan Kwok Keung, to whom she has been romantically linked in rumours, she said no, as she would not attend. Asked if she would like to receive a gift from him, she again protested that she does not want to say too much because it is all very sensitive. She says that she is just an 'ordinary employee' of TVB and she does not want so much trouble. So would she refuse his gift? She says that this would not happen, so she really does not want to talk about it. She just wants a peaceful birthday, far away from gossip - this would make her very happy.
